Tidings of Great Joy

Oh what a lovely evening, filled with graham crackers, laughter, and an over abundance of Christmas candy.

You know the saying "you don't know what you've got till it's gone". Well that is totally true. I didn't realize - well I mean I guess I always knew, but I didn't fully realize how much I appreciate and love my friends and family until I was removed from them. I missed everyone and everything so dearly. Raise you're hand if you are a homebody. Because I am. I am one who likes the feeling of familiarity, safety, security. I don't handle change all too well. But I force myself to do it anyway cuz it's good for me. Like drinking that nasty cherry flavored cough syrup. You don't want to do it, you don't enjoy doing it, but you do it anyway cuz the end result it great.

But now I am back, if only for a short, fleeting moment. And it is good to wake up in the early morning and see the sun rising over those glorious mountains, and it feels good to drive around town, up and down through the lights of Main Street, checking to see the movies playing at the Sticky Shoe and ending up at the gas station for an ice cold beverage. Just like the old times.

And it feels especially good to be hugged by old friends who you haven't seen in a while and to laugh with them again.

And also to have your dad cook you delicious gourmet hamburgers and to listen to your mom laugh at her own jokes and to shake your head at your brother in disapproval as he runs around shirtless.

I seriously have some sentimentality issues. I would make a terrible drifter. I could never be a ramblin' woman. I mean I understand the whole "romance" of traveling from place to place, never staying too long anywhere. But come on. That would never actually work for me.

I am one heck of a grounded girl.

So that's why I'm forcing myself to move around right now, so I can hurry up and learn my lesson and then settle down and never leave home again.

Anyway. Merriest Christmas to all, and to all a good night.

I love these peeps.

Around Town

For whatever reason driving around the town all night listening to Tim Mcgraw and talking about nothin' in particular just feels like home to me.

It's good to be back. Even if I've been running from a lot of the memories here for the past four months. But now all those memories seem like so long ago. So far away that I can't even reach out and touch them anymore.

That's a good thing.

It's good to move on.

Also... I'm now officially 19 YEARS OLD!!! AHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Holy canolie where did the time go?!?! Nobody knows. My very last year of teenager-hood.

Bring it on!

Looking Back

If we stop and look back on our lives we can trace back through all of the decisions we made that got us to where we currently are. Now that my first semester of college has gone by faster than a runaway train it has left me thinking about where the time has gone.

How did I get to be here?

I think as we are living life we don't realize what is happening to ourselves. But then when we grow a little older and get a little taller we are able to finally look back and see everything that happened, and then we realize all that we learned.

And we also smile because we recognize that we are better people than before.

Each day is filled with something new, some other life lesson that we might not realize is changing us until after it is all said and done.

My first semester of college. Now that it has come to a close I can at last look back and see.

Let's be perfectly honest with each other now.. I struggled a lot. I'm not gonna lie. It was hard. A friend of mine pointed out to me that I am afraid of change, and he is quite right.

We all are in some degree or another - agreed?

But it is good to struggle. That's the only way to grow.

People do say that a lot but as sure as the day is long it's true!

Life changes and so do our situations, we just have to learn to adjust to those changes and make the most out of it. We gotta learn to have faith that it will work out.

That is what I learned this semester. I also realized that everybody else is going through the same darn thing. Who knew, right?

Life is gonna get real good people, just you wait. And this isn't even the beginnin'!

Wide Open Spaces

I think I'm startin to understand what they mean when they talk about a Home on the Range.

Don't get me wrong. I'm still a mountain girl, always will be. But there really is something magical about a huge wide open place, where you can see everything around you for miles and miles, and the sun setting lower and lower on the earth until you could lie down on your stomach and it would be at eye level with yourself. You can't do that with mountains.

That's a place you could really run. There's nothing to stop you, not a single thing for miles around.

And wouldn't ya know it! I'm kind of excited to move to Kansas!

Dreams, Hopes and Fears

My Dreams:

I want to own a flower farm. Or be a florist.

I also want to own some horses.

And a nice little house with a wrap around porch.

I dream of lots of children running in the yard, and a tall man with big, strong hands, a crooked smile and eyes full of love and laughter.

I Hope For:

That man to call me his little darlin' and his sweetheart.

Good health.

To be better everyday.

A life full of hard work, but also lots of love, and a little bit of adventure.

I'm Afraid Of:

Being alone.

Not making the right choices.

Never feeling like I'm home again.

Never progressing.

Darkness

I watched out the window of our kitchen as the big silver pickup pulled up to the back of the house with the horse trailer. I pulled on my boots and ran out the door, smelling the crisp autumn air in my nostrils. I climbed up in the truck.

"Hey grandpa!"

Dodger, my grandparents dog poked his head in between the door and my seat from the back. I ruffled his fur a little bit. "And hello there to you too Dodgey!"

I could feel the rumble of the diesel engine beneath my feet as we drove toward the canyon, and the wind between my fingers as I stuck my hand out the window. There wasn't much sound. Just a lot of silence as there usually was with my grandfather. A quiet man. But really all that needed to be said could be said simply by being there, going out for another ride.

We reached the trail head and parked the truck along the dirt road. We pulled the horse out from the trailer and I stood at watched as my grandpa saddled it. Taking note of every detail. I led the horse a little ways and then put my little square-toed boot up in the stirrup, grasped the saddle horn and pulled myself up. I let the leather from the reigns run through my fingers. Then I closed my eyes and felt the breeze tossle my hair a little bit. It was quiet, and cool and wonderful. The best sort of day for riding.

We started along the trail in quiet. For a while nothing was said, just a lot of looking at all the pretty leaves of red and gold. I smiled to myself and I heard an elk call in the distance. My grandpa stopped and in turn the horse and the dog stopped too. We all waited there... listening. Another elk called back to the first. We stood in silence for a brief moment. Taking time to hear the beautiful sounds until they eventually died off. We continued on our way.

Before long we reached the beaver ponds, they place we usually stopped to rest and eat. I hopped down from the horse and tied it to a near by tree. We sat down on a log and opened up the little zip lock baggies my grandma had packed for us. PB&J tonight!! Woo!! Grandpa and I made small talk in between bites of sandwich, and when I was through I took a little swig out of the water canteen.

It was really a perfect evening. The sun had begun to sink a little low over the trees, but there was still plenty of light. I knew we would get home before it got dark anyway - I mean we always made it out of the mountains by then anyway right?

I climbed back up onto the saddle and we continued back onto the trail. Turning and twisting through all sorts of trees. I admired all the lovely carvings in the aspens - "J+L", "Mary and Mike", "Ron 1997", etc. I thought about who those people might be. How long ago had it been since they had walked through these trees as I was now doing.

The sun was slowly getting lower and lower on the horizon, till I could no longer see it. There was still light, but we were beginning to descend back into the canyon into a thicket of trees and I knew if we didn't get back soon we'd be stuck in the deepest part of the forest in the darkness.

Granted my dear old grandfather had his six shooter in his holster, loaded. And also Dodger, who is the biggest bear of a dog I'd ever seen. But still, I was beginning to get a little nervous.

"How much longer till we're back to the truck?"

"Ohhh... I'd say only about two miles."

Two miles, I thought. Ok I can do that. It won't get dark by then. No way.

But with each passing tree the little light that still shown over the tops of the mountain peaks began to fade more and more.

About a mile later it was completely dark.

Each sound that came from the forest around me was either a murderer, a rapist, or a bear. I just knew it. Holy crap, I thought. Tonight I am going to die.

On top of the thicket of darkness I was currently surrounded by, we had just reached the steepest, rockiest part of the trail. So not only could I not see a dang thing, I could feel the horse struggling from beneath me to keep steady on the trail.

"Hey grandpa..." I squeeked, "How much longer till we're at the truck?"

I'm pretty sure he could sense the fear in my voice because at that he said.

"Hannah, you don't need to worry. Even though we can't see anything the horses can still see the trail in the dark. They will always lead you back home."

And sure enough that horse led me straight back to the truck.

Maybe I'm gettin' a little sappy here comparing this to the gospel and what not. But whenever I look back on that experience I always compare it to life.

Ya see, in life we are kind of in the darkness. Just like I was on that horse ride on that cool fall night. We can't see a darn thing. We don't know where we're going. But Christ is our light, and even though we can't see, he can. He knows the way home, and if we but only follow him, he will always get us safely back there. We just need to trust in him, trust him enough that he will get us through our darkest of times and take us back to safety. He will always lead us home.

Alma 26:15

"Yea, they were encircled about with everlasting darkness and destruction; but behold, he has brought them into his everlasting light, yea, into everlasting salvation; and they are encircled about with the matchless bounty of his love...."

Long Johns

All my dreams came true this weekend when we made a little trip down to CAL Ranch and I bought myself a nice pair of red long johns. On the package it says it's called a "Union Suit" hahaha. It has a butt flap and everything!! Oh man this pretty much was the greatest day of my life. They are also surprisingly very warm. Perfect for those cold winter months.

I don't think I've ever been happier!

Derby, KS

As a child there were two places that I vowed I would never move to: Idaho and the midwest. Oddly enough within a year after graduating high school I will have lived in both of these places. Funny how things change, ain't it?

Come January I will be moving to Derby, Kansas for four months. I will be sleeping on a couch and probably working at some grocery store.

Granted, it is not the most glamorous decision that could've been made, but it will certainly be an adventure. I like this time of life, ya know. Cuz you're free to go wherever and do whatever you want. You are single and free and can do with your time whatever you wish. I like that. Plus I know that this time isn't gonna last too long so I better take advantage of it.

Kansas it is, dang it!

Satisfaction

It seems right as one becomes satisfied with life, you get knocked right back down because God has even higher heights in mind for you, and as long as you are satisfied you won't be making any efforts to get higher.

So alas, we are knocked down.

                                                      down.
                                                                        down.

And when we are at the bottom we want to get back up the ladder because we miss that comfortable little rung we were at before because it was just the right height to pick cherries. So then we struggle for a while on our gradual ascent and then once we reach that rung again - the one we used to pick cherries at, we look up and realize that there is still more ladder for us to climb. So we continue to climb and find ourselves at an even higher place, with an even better view. Above that cherry tree.

Views of the ocean front variety.

Ya get what I'm sayin'?

And thus is life.

Seventeen

Sometimes I wish I was 17 again.

Ok ok. I realized I'm only 18 and 10/12, but still.

17 is a magical age. The prime of teenage life, as my best friend often puts it. The time where you can fall in love for the first time and believe that there's nothing else in the world. The time where you get in your car and you drive to wherever the heck you feel like, just because you can. And you feel invincible. Like nothing could ever get in your way because you're older now and you have your whole entire life ahead of you. And you really do believe nothing can stand in your way, because hey, you're 17 and you can go down to Del Taco well past midnight just because you can.

And then that magical year beneath the sun and the trees fades and then you turn 18, and then you turn 19 and suddenly your realize you're teenager-hood is over. And although you still have your whole life ahead of you, you are no longer invincible because you have real life worries and now you have your future to think about.

But at 17. You're still invincible, and the only real worries you have are typically regarding what adventure you're going to go on this weekend.

It really is a magical age.

I'm too nostalgic for my own good.

Now don't you dare go tellin' me you haven't heard this song before. And don't go tellin' me you don't like it. Because I know ya do. At least just a little for sentimental reasons.

A heart don't forget somethin like that.

Midnight

It's not that I intentionally stay up this late. It just happens.

I come home from school, and like the majority of normal people in the world I am in no way filled with a burning desire to do my homework. In fact it's quite the opposite.

And so I sit and stare at my computer screen, log into facebook, get up and get myself a cold one (calm down you, I'm just talking about a Dr. Pepper!) and then go sit back down, log out of facebook, jam to some tunes, get up again, dance around in the hallway, make fun of Ashley... you know the usual. And suddenly before I even know it, it's like 11 o' clock! Then I crack down and start getting serious about all the homework business and right as I open up my assignment I look out the window and what do I see?

Not popcorn popping on the apricot tree.

But a handsome man. Then said man must of course be discussed with my fellow females.

Then it's like 11:34 and I have no idea what happened with my life.

So once again I find myself at the kitchen table, 12:10pm, and the blinds have been shut for good measure. I can't have any more handsome men or other crazy events outside distracting me. Honestly I am so focused right now that the building could start on fire and I would persist with my homework! After using the convenient fire extinguisher one foot behind me.

Really. Procrastination is a serious problem you guys. Someone should really do something about it.

Your Smile

Your smile
Will always be one of my favorite things
Like backyard barbeques and front porch swings
And evening breeze through a window screen.

Autumn Leaves

Fall is here, people.

Pumpkin carving.

Dried out corn stocks.

Leaves of red and gold.

Pretty scarves and tall suede boots.

Warm potato soup.

Maybe even a hayride wrapped up in blanket with your sweetie if you're lucky.

And that crisp morning air. The kind that nips at your nose just a bit.

It's an alright season I guess.

I'll Walk, Thanks

Who knew grocery shopping could become a three hour event?

And the actual shopping part of it takes only 20 minutes.

You do the math.

I Have a Confession

The first week of college was really hard for me. I was incredibly homesick. I missed my mountains, my friends, my mom, my dad, my grandparents, my siblings - yes, even my shirtless 17 year old brother. It was a rude awakening to be uprooted from everything I have ever known and thrown into a place where I must live in a box with three other people, having no car to go places, no friends, no family, no job, no maverick frozen yogurt runs at midnight... no nothin'.

More or less I felt as though my freedoms had been taken away. I lived the good life back home, I was able to come and go as I pleased, had an awesome job playing bingo with old folks 3 days a week, hung out with my best friends every night, and slept in my own room with my own bathroom and food somehow managed to show up magically in the fridge for me to eat. It was good livin' I tell ya!

Then I was uprooted.

To Idaho.

Rexburg, Idaho.

I quickly found out that the girl to boy ratio is 3:1. Four hours of homework a night suddenly became the norm. I worried about whether or not I was going to make friends, or if ANY cute boys even existed in this place.

And they do. There's one in my American Foundations class. Teehee.

But gosh dang it I was tearin' up every five seconds just thinking about how much I missed everything. Also I was questioning my decision to move up here. I just had a terrible attitude about everything, which is so out of character for me. I'm a pretty darn happy person! I like life!

However, the story takes a turn when my english teacher assigns us to read Ether 12 for homework the first day of class. So I read it, and I come across this scripture...

Ether 12:27

"And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them."

A sweet pillar of light lit up in my head just then, I tell ya. And holy moly I know for sure that God definitely knows each one of us and what we're goin through because that is exactly what I needed to hear. Crazy how that works.

But I got to thinkin. In life we gotta have our challenges. We've got to have those hard moments that will test our character, and help us to grow. Because God puts us into situations that we're uncomfortable with sometimes so that we'll humble ourselves and get down on our knees and ask him for help, and then after we've humbled ourselves and have faith in him then he'll lift us right back up higher than we ever were before. That is how we grow. That's how we become better. We're tested and tried and if we endure it well, then we become a little closer to being the person Heavenly Father wants us to be.

And thus is life. You go up, you go down, and then afterwards you go a little higher than you were before.

You become a little better.

p.s. I'm liking college a lot better now! My mom sent me a package of false mustaches and some circus peanuts in the mail so I am a happy woman. Also I made a friend and he is from El Salvador, he is awesome and has a sweet accent.

Hello, and Welcome to Apt. #232

Hello my friends, you are now about to embark on a grand circle tour of my apartment!

Straight ahead you will see our living room. Obviously I took this picture in kind of a creeper fashion so I apologize that you cannot see the right side of the living room, but I assure you that it more or less looks like the part of it you can actually see. Oh yes, that woman on the couch is Shelby.

She loves having pictures taken of her in her lounge clothes at late hours of the night. Upon realizing that I was documenting our apartment my other roommates ran into their room and locked it. I don't think they quite like having pictures taken of themselves in PJ's as much as Shelby does. Oh well.

To your right you will see our lovely white kitchen. This is where I prepare all of my delicious canned and boxed foods.

As we walk down the hall and enter into Shelby and I's room you will see Shelby's 6 foot tall monkey, Ol' Brown Eyes. She just couldn't bear leaving him back in Utah.

Here is my side of the room! Obviously this picture was taken at an earlier date, as I am currently wearing my pajamas. But I didn't want to embarrass myself so I put this one up where I am wearing normal person clothes.

And lastly, here is my lovely miniature fish tank. It is about 2 inches tall, and my aunt sent it to me in the mail yesterday. Probably the best gift I have ever received. It's almost like having a real pet!

And so concludes the grand circle tour of Apt. #232! Thank you for joining us tonight!

Boys

My roommates and I were staring out our living room window, watching as cute boys would walk in and out of other girl's apartments in our complex. We all look around at each other and someone asks:

"Why do we never have any cute boys in our apartment?!"

"Because all we do is sit in our living room in our PJ's all day!"

Sadly that has some truth to it.

Then later that night we were all standing around, joking around about the fact that we've been here a week and there are already girls in our complex that have boyfriends. Then we were making fun of ourselves for not yet making any guy friends, and just kind of moping and sympathizing with each other.

Right in the middle of this feeling sorry for ourselves about our lack of male interaction Shelby gets a phone call from a boy.

So Ashley and I look at each other, and storm out of the room.

"Ashley, I guess it's just me and you now! The only ones without a boy!"

So as the two of us start heading to the kitchen to eat a tub of ice cream so we can further pity ourselves Ashley starts cracking up.

"What! What is so funny?"

"As I walked past the bathroom all I saw was a pack of pads and I thought to myself... This is it... this is my life now... sitting here in this apartment on my period, eating tubs of ice cream all the time!"

Hahaha. So we both start laughing as we once again make our way to the kitchen in our PJ's to eat ice cream and admire cute boys out the window who don't even know we exist.

Granted, it has only been 6 days, and we all did make a pact once we got here that there would be "No Rings, Just Flings!" But I had no idea that avoiding marriage the first year of college would be so darn easy.

I seriously need some guy friends.

Suddenly Idahoan

As an angsty 14 year old girl I was openly against everything Idaho. I made it known to everyone that I would never. ever. live there.

Fast forward 5 years and I live there!!

Funny how things change.

Shelby and I in front of our apartments. Oh yeah.

I'm buying my own toilet paper now. Craziness.

BYU-I is awesome. My roomies are awesome. College is just great.

The Not-So Sensuous Sandwich

Took on the Sensuous Sanwich 2-footer challenge today.

I requested they cut it into thirds, so that I could eat it in a more manageable approach.

After 16 inches of pastrami, jack cheese, turkey, vinegar and oil, the sandwich began to defeat me. So I unbuckled my belt, hoping that I could possibly make some more room. Each bite was an intense battle between myself and the sandwich, and also trying not to up chuck. With 10 minutes left on the clock, the remaining 8 inches of glory had become a soggy mess. Then I threw up (don't worry it was in the trash can).

I may not have gotten the picture on the wall or the free T-Shirt, but I felt like the real thrill was in the attempt. Maybe I'm just saying that because I failed. But I had fun trying anyway, and I guess that's what really counts when going to battle against a two foot long sandwich.

My stomach hurts.

College Livin'

Technically I'm not in college yet. BYU-I doesn't start until the 12th of September, and I don't even move out until the 8th. So pretty much I have been sobbing over everyone's facebook statuses....

"College is so great!!! I luv it!!! 4eva!!!"

"Me and my roommates just bought a big screen TV and then had a dance party in the street! Woo! College ROCKS!"

"My professor looks like Mr. Rogers! lollzzz. Luv college life."

"So many attractive men AT COLLEGE! Love it here at BYU!"

Ok so maybe those "statuses" were a little bit of an exaggeration. But that's basically the kind of material people have been posting. Pretty much college sounds awesome. Everyone and their dog started like, last week. And I'm still waking up and going to work in the morning. I haven't even packed up all my junk yet. Good news is that there's only seven more days THEN I get to start college livin'. And partyin'. And stuff. Except we're not allowed to wear shorts, or capris up at Rexburg, so probably there won't be any partying. Everyone knows that a life without capris and shorts is no life at all. Especially a partying life.

That was a joke. I don't even wear capris. And Rexburg is cold. So NBD.

Plus my life is a party practically every day anyway. I mean just today I ate a J-Dawg wit some buds. That was wild, believe me. I had sauerkraut, pickles AND onions on it. Just imagine the current smell of my breath. Now if that's not living life on the edge I don't know what is.

Anyway, the point of this post is to say that I'm REALLY REALLY excited for college. I can't wait until I'm movin up to Idaho, into my awesome dorm with my awesome roommates and awesome best friend. And decorating my awesome room with my awesome decorations I bought. Which awesomely I haven't bought any, but I'm sure I'll find some. Maybe I'll buy a Jet Li poster. JK. I'd probably buy like a Lord of the Rings poster. Let's be real here.

So yeah... eat a J-Dawg.

Note: Actual J-Dawg is better tasting than this picture makes it out to be.

A Pillow of Blue Bonnets

With all the weddings I've been surrounded by as of late - I began to wonder about my own future wedding and what I'd like it to be like.

One thing I am sure of, I want a bouquet of wildflowers.

It would be necessary for me and husband to pick them ourselves. We'd probably take a little mountain stroll a day or two before we're wed and march ourselves along some rugged trail picking indian paintbrush and blue bonnets and those cute little yellow and white flowers. Then we'd pass by a particularly awesome flower and husband man would pick it and put it in my hair and tell me that I was as "pretty as the morning". Then we would walk away into the sunset.

Commence your puking.

But it is true. And it'll be just as cheesy, if not more so than described.

When we got back home I'd just stick the bouquet in a mason jar and the night before we get hitched I'll tie 'em all together with some pretty pink ribbon.

Oh, love.

Lovely Locks

Vanity always was my favorite sin.

Just kidding, but I am kind of a junkie for figuring out cool new hair styles, and this summer I've been really into beach waves, and messy, braided hair.

Like so:

Kate Hudson, dang that girl can pull off beach waves like perfectly, every time.

Sometimes I feel a little shafted though cuz with my bangs some of these hairstyles just don't look as good. But whatev, I can still try.

I've done my research and from experience I can tell ya the best way to get beach waves, for those of us who are not naturally wavy, is to spritz your hair with sea salt spray before styling.

I bought this stuff - Not Your Mother's Sea Salt Spray from Wal-Mart and it works pretty darn good if I do say so myself! The theory behind it all is that it gives your hair texture. The kind of smokin hot texture you get when you just come running out of the ocean on a summer day. Like huzzah - Beach Hair!! Beach Babe Hair. I want to be a Beach Babe. So anyway, this stuff costs like 3 bucks I think. And if you're dead broke you can always just mix some regular salt with some water, but the above stuff smells like coconuts so I suggest buying it if you're into smelling good and what not.

The next step after sea-salting your beautiful hair is to take a medium sized curling iron, and wrap your hair around it. None of that clamp-and-roll business. Just grab some hair, and wrap it around the barrel and hold it for a few seconds. Just long enough to get a wave - cuz you don't want a tight curl. True Beach Babes don't have curls, they have waves. Messy waves.

So after you do that to your whole head I usually just spray some regular run-of-the-mill hair spray and whip my hair around a few times to AC/DC or something. Cuz I'm, like, totally a hardcore rocker.

That was a joke.

But just whip your hair around a bit, no rock n' roll tunes necessary, and scrunch. Messy it up.

And voila!! You have yourself some beach waves like Kate Hudson in the picture above.

Hello, I am hungry.

It has recently come to my attention that, like many of you, I will soon become a college student. With that comes certain responsibilities. Such as cooking my own food. For the most part I plan on living on Cup-o-Ramen, but for those rare occasions when I find extra change in the couch cushions I need to sharpen up my cooking abilities!

I'm no Iron Chef .

You pickin up what I'm puttin' down?

So I gotta get myself all sorts of chef practice and what not.

Starving College Student Eatin' Recipe #1

Farewell Elder

This little lad left to the MTC today.

He's going to the Tawain Taichung Mission! Congratulations Elder Allen!

Thus far I have watched three of my close friends leave to their missions. I seriously have never felt more proud than watching my friends make the choice to dedicate two years of their lives in service to the Lord. Such an honorable thing to do. I really look up to them.

The downside is always the goodbye though. I mean what can you even say? Like - "Hey see ya later!"

For some reason that just never seems to suffice. I really wish there was a word that meant something along the lines of "Your friendship has meant the world to me, I'm so proud of you for making this decision. I have enjoyed our time together and will miss you greatly. Love ya!"

Except there isn't a single word that means all of that so we all just have to stick with "See ya!". Plus bending down on one knee and confessing all your deep feelings about a person and their friendship as you're walking away from a missionary open house isn't entirely appropriate. So goodbye simply must make do.

I'm just going to invent a new word I think, that fits everyone's goodbye needs. Deeper than goodbye, less awkward then "I miss you, I love you... blah blah blah."

I'll let you know once I think of it.

Burgers, baby.

If I had a last meal, it would be a quarter pounder with cheese, and a Dr. Pepper.

Greasy it may be. But I'm a girl who appreciates real good, delicious, American food.

Sure, maybe my life expentancy has dropped to 59, but there really isn't anything better than a burger straight off the grill. Even the grills of the McDonald's variety.

Never Been Kissed

Why yes, I am 18 years old and have never been kissed.

Occasionally I am embarrassed about it, particularly when I am in a group of girls that is going around in a circle sharing first kiss stories and then it gets to me and they all look at me with eyes full of knowing and pity and tell me that I should just make a story up.

I was always one for a little bit of cheese so I make up this perfect kiss story, they all clap, and then we continue going around the circle. (What's super awesome is that one of my friends later asks about who the boy was, totally forgetting that the story was completely made up).

But later I remind myself about the multiple opportunites I have had to kiss, and I'm glad that I never took them, because let's be honest, sitting on a filthy park bench at 12:30 at night, being asked by some boy to kiss him because it's his "last night in town" is not exactly what I want to tell my kids about down the road.

It's just that you know when you really like someone, and everyone else kind of pales in comparison? Yes. Because of this you could say that I have become a very picky gal over the years. I know what I want. I'm not expecting perfection, but I do have a pretty good idea about what I'm looking for in a man and just because I am not tempted by every Tom, Dick and Harry doesn't mean that I have issues.

The other night I was sitting around a bonfire discussing my VL-ness with two of my guy friends. One of them was criticizing me for being picky. I told him that I would rather kiss nobody then kiss someone I didn't really like. He then offered to let me kiss him. He was completely serious. I was completely uninterested, although very amused.

I am by no means 'saving' my first kiss for my husband. But should I end up kissing someone and he ends up being the person I marry and I never brush my lips with another soul for as long as I live... I am totally cool with that.

What I'm really trying to get at is that I want to kiss someone I like a lot. Not just someone I'm attracted to, or someone who happens to offer up their lips so that I can "know what it feels like". I want to kiss someone who makes me go weak in the knees, someone who will take my hand and ask me to dance with him on the side of the road just because. Someone who will steal a glance at me when I'm not looking and smile that crinkly smile of his because he adores me so much. Someone who loves me for me. That is what I'm waiting for. And when I am finally lucky enough to be kissed by said man, it's going to be the end of it all. The end of life as I know it. And I am going to be walking on cloud nine because of how absolutley wonderful it all is. It's going to be freakin awesome!

Nostalgia

As the end of my senior year in high school approached I began to anticipate feelings of sadness that would assuredly come.

Graduation passed.

None such feelings came.

I took some sort of strange pride in that. Like "Ha! I'm not sad at all about high school being over! Take that you bums!"

But this afternoon, I came across this video that was made for Cavestock.

I don't know what it was about watching a bunch of people I know dancing around the halls of American Fork High to Chris Brown... but I felt a momentary twinge of sadness.

High school was awesome. Super awesome.

And ya know what I'm gonna kinda miss it.

I was talking to my aunt the other day about why high school is such a huge event in people's lives. I mean people talk about "Back when I was in high school..." all the time. There's like countless movies and TV shows about high school. I swear people just can't get enough of it. My aunt said it makes such a huge impact on people because it's the ending of childhood. It is the transitioning point from little-kid-wearing-footsies-and-watching-saturday-morning-cartoons-with-your-favorite-sugar-cereal to big-adult-kid-wearing-paisley-ties-and-eating-Raisin-Bran - cuz let's be honest, anything else might cause the diabetes.

It's surreal almost. I feel like I've kind of waited my whole life just for this moment, and now that I'm here I'm not so sure what to expect.

I'm moving out. To like, Idaho. In like... 1 1/2 months. Woah. My parents are giving up my room! Heck, I might never have a room all to myself ever again. That's a crazy thought. But ya know what, I'm totally ready for it. I'm ready to move on and start the next stage in life. I appreciated my time at American Fork High School. It was time well spent, I'd hope to think. I will miss it now and again I'm sure. But now it is time to move on.

Anyway, my nostalgic feelings are over.

I am Hannah. I am nearly 19 years old. Bring it, world!

Tomato Cages

This is how I've been spending a good deal of my free time.

Since I am currently enslaved to working toward college tuition costs, I have been unable to afford my usual flower roof garden. So instead I decided to take over the family garden, considering that my parents are too busy to do it themselves this summer it all worked out quite conveniently.

There's something about watching your very own plants grow that is real special.

There's something about weeding everyday and dodging leaping spiders and other strange insects that isn't special at all.

In the end, when I shall reap the fruits of my labor... or in this case vegetables, it shall be worth it.

Try gardening, it's therapeutic.
