My Dream Date

I believe we have all been asked at some point or another what our "dream" date would be.

A certain boy asked me this very question a few weeks ago, and I really don't think he gave me sufficient time to answer him, so I had to quickly come up with something, it was quite unfair really. But now that the idea has been stewing around in my mind for a while I think I can finally do the question justice.

Hannah's Dream Date

A handsome boy, tall, with windswept hair pulls up in a beat up pick up truck. As he gets out he looks off into the dusky midsummer sky. The weather is cool and nice, perfect. He walks up the porch and knocks three times.

I open up the door and he smiles that crooked smile of his.

"Hi there sweet thing," he says as he hands me a boquet of dandelions that he picked from his yard only an hour before.

We walk down the steps and he opens the door for me. Always the gentlemen, that boy.

We drive on down the road and I begin to question him about what the plan is for the night. He informs me that it is a surprise. I then look into the back of his truck and notice that a tarp is covering a massive load. I question him again. He tells me that I'll just have to wait and see.

We laugh and talk and tell stories, and before I know it we are driving up the windy road of the canyon, windows down and the cool summer breeze blowing through my hair. He turns on the radio and we both begin to sing "American Pie" as loud as our equally terrible voices can possibly go.

Eventually we end up at a small lake, he pulls off the road, and comes around and opens my door. We then walk around to the back of the truck and he takes the tarp off the bed. Inside is a canoe, a small cooler and some fishing poles.

We drag the canoe into the lake, set bait onto our lines and begin to drift out into the water.

After half an hour of no success we decide to dig into the cooler. He pulls out some jars of homemade lemonade and a bag of cherries. We sit there and laugh and spit the pits of the sweet cherries out into the water.

What. What is this?

His bobber sinks down into the water.

Excitedly he grabs his pole and yanks it upward.

"I think I got one!!" he yells to me.

He begins to reel his line in, fighting. It's a big one.

Suddenly. Unexpectedly. The pole snaps in two and all hope is lost.

He looks at me with a shocked look on his face. What the heck? We both start to laugh as we look at his broken fishing pole. Eh, it was an old one anyway.

"Do you want to go on a hike?" he says to me.

That is probably a good idea, I say, considering your pole is broken.

So he rows us back to shore and we put all our gear back into the truck.

We then hike up the small dirt trail, and he points out an elk to me in the distance. We both get real quiet and watch as it runs off into the trees, and then set on our way again. We walk and walk until we end up in a grove of wild onions, the boy finds a nice big rock and we both sit down. We talk for a while and then it gets quiet. The silence is nice. He looks down at me and pulls a laffy taffy out of his pocket, and then proceeds to read to me a super lame joke. I don't mind though.

Soon it is time for us to head back, as the sun has begun to sink low and it's best if we aren't caught in the woods after dark. We begin walking down the dirt trail and he reaches out and grabs my hand.

Eventually we reach the car. We both climb in and he turns on the country station. I hold my arm out the window and let the last bit of the warm night air blow against my arm. He looks at me and his eyes crinkle up and he smiles. I smile too.

Cheesy, yes.

But perfect too.

Piano, Man.

I've been taking piano since I was eleven years old.

And I'm only barely about to graduate level 3, people.

LEVEL 3.

pathetic.

I attribute this to a two year period from the age of 14 to 16 of absolutely no piano, and then many weeks gone by without any practice.

However I still continue to take lessons. From my very own grandmother too. This is especially convenient since I get fed yogurt and hamburgers when I go over there once a week. I love my grandma. Even when she hits me over the head with the hymn book because I don't practice at all.

I kind of get the feeling that I am never going to be some great concert pianist, but I'm ok with that. As long as I can play love songs and a little bit of boogie woogie every now and again I'm pretty content.

Here is my dream piano:

Yes, it exists. The fire engine red upright piano. Oh baby. One day I shall own one of these. One day my children shall gather around it like the Von Trapp children and sing songs while I jam out some crazy tunes.

It's going to be awesome.

My Future Home

I believe I would like a house with blue shutters.

And probably a blue door too. I'm leaning more towards the Robin's Egg blue color in the picture immediately above.

Just sayin'.

Day 9: I Believe

I believe in...

Love without end.

Kindness.

Driving with the windows down.

Hot showers.

Fresh socks (preferably of the tube variety).

Laughing until tears spring out of your eyes and your sides hurt.

Visiting grandparents.

Prayer.

Writing letters.

Using each day to be better than you were the day before.

Seeing the good in others, and forgetting the bad.

Learning from mistakes and trials.

Overcoming weaknesses.

Dancing like a fool.

Trying every single snocone flavor.

Santa Claus.

Playing Scrabble at family gatherings.

Christ.

Day 8: A Moment

I sat crouched upon a stage, behind a thick velvet curtain.

Among my friends and fellow band members - to my right, my best friend dressed as charmander, directly in front of me, a boy on the drums. Nerdy piano player, bassist and guitarist.

The muffled sound of the crowd behind the curtain can be heard.

The boy on drums looks at me, a painful expression upon his face. "Can we please get a bag to put over my head?"

"Heck no."

The curtains part, the lights turn up and the crowd cheers.

I feel like I'm about to lose my lunch.

Me and Charmander rise and turn around, arms raised into the air. I see the faces of my fellow classmates. They are in awe.

The music begins to play.

I dance.

I spin around and run in place and jump into the crowd.

I am pikachu.

We are the pokemon band.

The crowd raises out of their chairs and as they stand, they clap, and clap. And clap. They cheer. The curtain closes.

Yes.

Day 7: Friends

I have been blessed with a multitude of great friends throughout my life. They are all so very different from each other, and I love having that variety. I wish so dearly that I could go through each of them, for I love them all, but for the sake of time I will go through just a few:

Red haired friend with glasses. You probably know him. He plays a bunch of instruments, his family is crazy and gets together and makes weird movies and puts them on YouTube. When you go to his house you are allowed to eat whatever you want. He has a sticker collection underneath his counter. He never washes his scarf. He can make me laugh like pretty much no one else.

Tall lanky kid who also has glasses. I used to tell him he had a squid hair cut and then he cut his hair. He is extremely talented and also extremely intelligent. He appreciates classy things. His mom draws pictures on his lunch sack every single day, or at least she did until he got a metal lunch box. I feel like I can tell him anything, even ridiculous things that a lot of people wouldn't care about, but I know that he cares. He always laughs at my lame jokes.

Short girl with short hair. She can be very nerdy, but is definitely one of my favorite people to be around. She sends me random texts about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. She is one of those people who accepts everyone, no matter who they are. She doesn't care what mistakes you've made, she just cares about having fun being your friend. She has probably had more boyfriends than any other girl I know, we laugh about this on a regular basis.

Boy who is the craziest dancer I have ever seen. I feel like I can be completely myself around him without holding back because I know that he loves me for who I am. He is probably the most fun person to dance with on the planet. Sometimes he will dance so hard that he throws you into other people, and other people stare and laugh at you, but that is just fine with me. Appreciates doing crazy and random things with me, even if it's just to walk through a cemetary and talk. Has one of the greatest smiles I have ever seen.

Blond haired girl who also dances: She feels things very deeply. She is always kind and willing to go out and do fun things. Sometimes is crazy, sometimes is calm. Loves to dance, and takes it seriously. Committed to everything she does. Throws the greatest parties in the world. Has the best house for a game of Murder in the Dark. Always dresses very well and has her own unique taste in fashion.

And here is my best friend Shelby Frampton. I met her back in the olden days of fourth grade when we were but nine year olds going through the awkward stage of pre-teen life.

We have been through everything together, from boy drama to being pulled over by cops who think we are on drugs. She knows me better than just about anyone. In some things we are similar, in other things we are different. Our differences compliment each other though, and I think that's why we've been friends for so long. We are basically family. I'm quite certain that we'll be friends up until we are old women who get together and knit and eat soup. She's determined in everything she does, talented at the piano, and enjoys being classy. Has a talent for talking to people and making lots of friends. Knows exactly who she is and isn't afraid to be just that.

Day 6: My Day

Hahaha, oh man. Today has been great!

Here are some good moments:

- Ate cookies in Foods class. Straight out of the oven, with the chocolate chips all melty and delicious.
- Exchanged iPods with TJ and talked about our love of country music for an hour in ceramics.
- Went to an FFA meeting with Cassady. Talked about the upcoming FFA week.
- Walked in the hall with a boy I secretly think is super cute.
- Went over to Shelby's house and saw a couple LP friends. Laughed at a clock and watched Snape's Diary.

- Was hit on by some strange man at Texaco...

Let me explain that one.

After school I drove over to Texaco, I was running a bit low on gas, so I needed to fill up the ol' tank you see.

So there I was... standing by my car, pumping gas, unaware of the events that are about to occur.

Suddenly.

A man.

A man in a big white truck.

Pulls up and rolls the window down. Hair all ruffled up, sunglasses. Arm hanging out.

With an expression on his face that had "Hey pretty lady" written all over it, he opens his mouth and says, "Hey, it's nice to see a girl driving a Dodge."

Confused, my first instinct is to jump in my truck and drive away. After a few seconds of thinking it over I realize that probably isn't the best decision, so I respond.

"Oh ya!"

"I'm surprised that there isn't some horse trailer connected up to this thing!" Says the man.

"Oh not today!" *laugh*

"You ride?" *attempts to flash a seductive smile*

"Ya I do!"

"Really! What type of horses? Quarters, arabians?"

"Quarters."

"Nice! Where do you ride at?"

"Oh up the AF canyon, just trail riding!"

"Well we should go ride together sometime!"

Please don't ask for my number. Please don't ask for my number. Please don't ask for my number.

" What's your number?"

At this point I had to do some quick thinking. This man is like...25?!?! I'm just in high school for heaven's sake! But I can't reject him!!! What can I do that wouldn't be mean?! Should I just jump in my truck and drive away as fast as I can, like my original plan?? No. No. That's a bad idea.

So I look at him and smile. "...my number?"

"Here, how about I give you my number instead?"

Relieved, I say "ok!"

So I grab my phone and he gives me a series of digits.

"You better not let that number go to waste now! You better use it!"

"Haha, oh we'll see!"

"What! We'll see?! Well, the name's Michael, you better use that number! See ya."

Then the strange man in the white truck puts on his sunglasses, rolls up his window and drives away.

Not that there was anything wrong with the guy. I mean it's not like he had some sort of weird growth on his face. He was decent looking, and there's no doubt that he was confident in himself. But he was like...25....28...30? Too old for me. I'm like 18 years old, people. I was thrown off guard. But it made for a great story, and I definitely appreciated his bravery.

And so concludes the story of Hannah's day.
