Day 5: Love

Love isn't as complicated as some people make it out to be. It's not supposed to be hard to understand, or hard to feel, and probably shouldn't even be hard to explain, but for some reason everybody struggles when trying to put it into print.

Love is kind.

Love is selfless.

Love is full of charity and goodness and happiness, and sacrifice.

Christ is a perfect example of it.

Everybody feels love (except for Voldemort). Some people may have a better understanding of love than others, but everyone feels it.

I think as we grow older and experience more throughout our lives, we learn how to love more and more deeply. We learn that sometimes we have to sacrifice things we want for somebody else's needs, we learn to put those we love before ourselves. In the end we'll all figure it out.
It's just something that gets better with time, and maturity. Like a fine bottle of wine.
I guess there's different levels of love that people feel for all sorts of different things too.
There's....

Love for your family

Love for your friends

I just realized that in five out of those six pictures my mouth is hanging open and I am making a weird face.

There's things we love to do....

And maybe, if you get lucky.

There's true love...

Day 4: Food that I Eateth

My alarm rang at the usual 5:30 am this morning, and as usual I hit the snooze twice. Those ten minutes of extra sleep mean a lot to me. So anyway, after I rolled out of bed and onto the floor, crawling, hands and knees into my bathroom, grasping the counter top and pulling myself up to look into my bloodshot eyes, I realized that I wasn't going to make it to first period this morning.

Happily I skipped back to my bed.

7:30 or so rolls around and I wake up. A growling sensation inside my stomach occurs. What should I eat, I think to myself? So many possibilities! Eating is seriously one of the most exciting things to me haha. Happiness is growing inside of me just as I think of it. But generally when I wake up later I try to get ready first and then go get breakfast on my way out.

Some amount of time later as I am on my way out to school I grab my brown paper lunch sack, that never fails to be waiting for me on the counter each day, I rummage through it while I unlock my car door, and pull out a...............

BANANA!!!!!!!!! WOOOO!!!!!!! YAAAA!!!!!!

Actually that is a bunch of bananas. I did not have that many though. Just one.

So as I'm holding the steering wheel with one hand, driving down the lane to school, I unpeel my banana and eat it happily.

However, a banana does not seem to quite satisfy my hunger, so... once again I reach inside my lunch sack, rummaging for something good, digging for a gold, and find.....

A poptart?

Hmmm, I think to myself. I do not usually eat these things. Shall I partake?

I look down into my lunch sack, realizing that the only other options are a bag of candy hearts and a frozen capri sun.

Yes, I partake.

It had been quite sometime since I have had a poptart, probably many years in fact. It was good though.

Then I chuckle quietly to myself, thinking that, I have once again, eaten most of my lunch before third period even starts.

Here are some of my favorite foods:

Dr. Pepper, baby.

I ate a five patty one of these things once. Part of the hamburger went up my nose because my friend Danny B made me laugh. It hurt really bad. One time I also had fruit leather go up my nose, that was also unpleasant.

Oh how I love giant pickles.

Here is a picture of a lady holding a giant pickle. I don't know who she is. Also I have never eaten a pickle that big before.

Steak with A-1 sauce. Only way to go. Medium-Rare to Well-done. Either way I'm satisfied.

Mashed potatoes!

STRAWBERRIES. We have a little patch of these in our garden. I greedily hoard them all to myself.
I drink a glass of this every morning. Oh sweet chocolate milk. Love of my life.

Day 3: My Parents

This is my parents in like...1990. (Notice my dad's, uh, mullet? or whatever hairdo you call that haha).

My dad is the best. When I was a little kid he used to sit and play Super Mario with us, and me and my little brother would watch him play Donkey Kong 64 for hours. He's a fence salesman. He has a beard, and is really tall and big. He's that kind of dad who gets out his shotgun when dates come over. In fact when I turned sixteen, one of my best friends asked me out on my very first date, when he arrived my dad sat him on the couch and drilled the poor kid. Good thing my mom came to the rescue and shoved us out the door before it got violent. He's slackened up quite a bit now though. He used to tell me I wasn't allowed to date until I got married. Fortunately that rule was never enforced. He likes to hunt, duck hunting is his favorite, and he loves sports, especially football. When he goes grocery shopping he always brings back eclairs and buys the good sugar cereal.

My mom is also the best. She's very patient, and very kind. She rarely ever gets angry or raises her voice, and never says no unless she has to. She is full of love and charity for others. Whenever she goes on a trip she leaves a little bag of treats for us with a note. She writes lots of notes for us telling us that she loves us and I've always appreciated that so much. If she knows we're sad she tries her best to cheer us up. She's a nurse and works at a hospital, and loves to run. She's run like six marathons or something crazy like that. She likes doing crafts and hates yard sales for some reason. She makes the best chocolate chip cookies in all the world. I know everybody thinks their moms make the best cookies, but my mom actually does.

I love my parents.

Day 2: My First Love

I remember back in my kindergarten days I kissed some boy on the cheek.

Shortly after that all of the rest of the school children shunned me and told me I was bad. So.. pretty much I was traumatized of love until about the 4th grade.

I had plenty of crushes on plenty of very cute boys, but I can't really say that I ever had a childhood "love".

But, as fate would have it, love eventually catches up to even the best of us. I met a boy about two years back, he was tall and blond and had the biggest smile I have ever seen.

He gave me his jacket once. I wasn't even cold.

He called me princess all the time, and Miss Hannah, sometimes sweety.

One time I was sick and he let me hold onto his arm and he walked me to class, and waited until he knew I was going to be ok.

He let me use his fishing pole when mine wouldn't catch anything, and let me have his powerade because I didn't have anything to drink.

If I didn't talk to him for a week he'd ask me if I was still alive. He always made sure I knew he wasn't going to forget me.

We'd sit on his stairs and eat banana cream pie and talk about nothing in particular.

I guess there were a few times I was pretty mean to him. I don't really know why. But he always forgave me.

A couple months ago I had to say goodbye to him for a while though. Maybe even forever, who knows.

But when it's all said and done, he made me want to be a better person, and for that I can honsetly say that I really loved him. Still do.

Day 1: Me in Pictures and Words

Ok fine. I'll do the dang challenge.

I have given into temptation.

Alright, first thing's first people. My name is Hannah. For those of you who have taken the color code personality test, I am a white, with a little bit of blue and yellow. Although over the years I believe I have acquired some red.

A certain best friend of mine tells me I put way too much stock into that test. But I think it's pretty accurate, so whatev.

I'm a very cheesy girl. Sometimes unbearably cheesy. Sometimes to-the-point-of-embarrassing-friends cheesy.

I blush like a bright red cherry lollipop when I'm around cute boys. It's a terrible and great thing. Long ago, at the end of one summer break when I was going to the school to retrieve my textbooks, I ran into a friend of mine who I had not seen over the summer. A boy. We began talking and asking about each other's crazy adventures when a strange sensation took over me.... I felt my face begin to grow very very hot, I could feel rivers of blood rushing to my cheeks. I was blushin' up a storm. "Oh great. This is so embarrassing," I thought to myself, "how the heck am I supposed to cover this one up? He's going to think I'm some freak or something!!!" Silence. This boy asks me why I am all red....

"I got a really bad sunburn last week! It's terrible isn't it?! Haha...ha..."

Oh my gosh Hannah. What is wrong with you. Now he's going to really think you're a weirdy. Sunburn?!?!? Seriously?! Is that the best story you could come up with? What on earth is going to happen when you STOP blushing and your face isn't red anymore?

"Oh...haha...you know sunburns... they come and go... "

Luckily for me this friend of mine is nice and didn't say anything about it after that. Bless him. Oh man. So ya, that's my story on blushing. I blush a lot. My blushing isn't even exclusive to just cute boys though. I'll blush for lots of things. It's bad.

I love horseback riding. My grandpa and me go riding up the canyon all through out the summer. AF canyon is seriously like my favorite place. I'd be up there every day if I could. I also realized that I really love fishing this summer. A dear friend of mine taught me how to set up the perfect rig and I was reelin' in fish like nobody's business! That is pretty much the best feeling in the whole world by the way. Just sittin there on some muddy cooler on the bank of a lake, feeling a little tug on your line and then reeling that bad boy in! I love catching fish.

It may surprise you but fishing isn't actually all about the fish though. It's about talking life with a good friend in a lawn chair, smelling like power bait, and being able to relax up in the fresh air, feeling peace. It's great stuff, fishing is. Try it sometime.

I also love flowers. My secret ambition is to be a florist. I plant a big roof garden every summer with all sorts of pansies and daisies and other assortments of flowers. Then I sit up there and read and watch the hummingbirds. When I get married and have a house and big yard of my own I will undoubtedly have a gigantic garden. I'm making the kids weed though. I hate weeding.

One time I kissed a boy on the cheek for an ice cream sandwich. Don't judge me.

That's quite enough about me.

THE END

Yeehaw

I've got this grandpa, and he's a cowboy. Has been all his life. I mean the man wears wranglers and elk skin cowboy boots for heaven's sake, and until recently had a big huge bushy handle bar mustache. My grandma is a real sweet lady, and she's pretty much the opposite of my grandpa personality wise. She loves to talk and laugh and have fun, while my grandpa is really calm and quiet, he mostly likes to sit back and think about things, and for whatever reason hates everything to do with Lehi. They live just down the street from us in a little wooden house painted green with a sign hanging above the door that says "Here lives a cowboy with the deer of his life." There's a bunch of grapevines growing over the wooden fence around the yard and in the back there's a horse pasture and a big barn with a tin roof. I love it there! When I was growing up my grandma used to babysit us all the time while my mom was at work so we'd go over there and make cookies and when the irrigation ditch was on we'd run around in the grass flooded with water. I love my grandparents so much. They're such simple people, and they live such simple lives. Ya know those kind of people that find joy in sitting on the front porch and watching the sun go down, not even having to say a word to one another? Ya that's them. They don't have cell phones, they don't have a computer, they don't go on expensive vacations and they don't wear fancy shmancy clothes - but they've got their big bear of a dog named Dodger, their friends and their small little family, and that brings them all the happiness in the world.

Oh gosh I hope that's how I can be someday! Living a quiet life with my family and friends. Sitting on the back porch swing watching my kids and garden grow. Now that's the life right there man!

Just livin on love.

Oh Darlin'

So I decided to blog today. I figured two months since the last post had been long enough, besides I'm feeling a little lame because Shelby has been such a dedicated blogger, while I have pretty much failed at it.

And now, presenting....

MY THOUGHTS
of today

Last night, as I was jammin to some sick tunes, a song by the name of "Red Red Wine" began to play. For those of you who are unfamiliar with that particular song, just imagine yourself on an island surrounded by a bunch of Rastafarians playing steel drums, and maybe throw like,  Bob Marley and some little coconut drinks with them little pink umbrellas in the mix. And there you go - Red Red Wine. As the song pressed on I found myself stricken with an intense longing for summer, and then, trying to find some way to cope, I bitterly forced open my curtains and through salty tears stared down at the ice and snow, shaking my fist.

Not that I don't like winter or anything. I mean let's get real, winter means CHRISTMAS. Heck ya baby. And freakin awesome blue Christmas lights and little presents wrapped up in bows tucked away under the tree, and gingerbread houses, and gingerbread men, and Charlie Brown Christmas specials, and ice skating, and hot chocolate and chesnuts roasting by an open fire, and everyone knows that the most magical thing in the whole world is looking outside your window Christmas Eve and seeing big huge fluffy snowflakes gliding gently to the ground, blanketing the world in white! And let's not forget my birthday. So ya, winter is pretty cool, but once you've surpassed the Christmas season it doesn't seem to hold a whole lot of appeal, ya know? I mean once you've unwrapped all the presents and put away the Christmas tree all winter is, is ice you have to scrape off the outside of your windshield (and in my truck's case on the INSIDE of my windshield) every morning, slippery side walks, and frozen noses. And disease. And illness.

Summer, on the other hand, is a time where I can drive around with my windows rolled down, feeling the warmth of the sweet night blowing through my hair. I can also go to snoshack every day, sit on the tailgate and eat peach snocones with cream on top, wear my overalls around everywhere, fish, horseback ride, drink lemonade from mason jars, grow baskets of flowers and hang them from my roof, open my windows at night and hear the chirp of grasshoppers. Among other things.

I'm not trying to bellyache or nothin, but I just miss summer real bad. I guess staying bundled up in my house and listening to Red Red Wine will just have to do for now.
